# Atom — Small model. Precise control.

Atom is Barestate's edge-first grounding model. A 169 MB package turns a screenshot and an instruction into a pixel-exact target — on your Mac, in under 50ms, with nothing leaving the device.

| | |
|---|---|
| Package | 169 MB |
| Grounding | <50ms on-device |
| ScreenSpot-v2 | 75.94% one-shot |
| Boundary | Zero exfiltration |

**Status:** Live — in the Barestate Orb test build for Apple Silicon (M1 or later), macOS 14 or later. Install from Terminal: `curl -fsSL https://barestate.xyz/install.sh | bash`, or download https://download.barestate.xyz/Barestate-Orb-0.3.0.zip (not notarized yet: choose Open Anyway in System Settings → Privacy & Security on first launch). Barestate 1.0 arrives with Orbit; email hello@barestate.xyz to join the waitlist.

## Engineered to run where the screen is

Atom maps an instruction to a coordinate. Screenshot in, bounding box out — the ground-truth layer the Barestate app plans and acts on.

### One package. Full edge footprint.

Weights, tokenizer, processor, and configuration ship in a single 169 MB package (161 MiB), installed beside the app and served entirely by Apple Silicon. Metal-accelerated inference returns OS accessibility bounding boxes in under 50ms; the app owns task sequencing, performs the action, and re-observes the screen.

### Leaderboard-range accuracy, on-device.

One pass grounds 966 of 1,272 ScreenSpot-v2 targets — 75.94%. A second ReGround pass reaches 77.36%, within the published top-20 range on the public leaderboard (checked 4 October 2026). Frozen baseline, reproduced by Barestate on 25 September 2026. Atom results are Barestate evaluations, not an official leaderboard listing; ScreenSpot-v2 measures locating a target, not complete task success. ### Your screen never leaves the device.

Atom's screenshot and target instruction are processed locally by the native Mac runtime — zero network egress for grounding, temporary captures deleted after the step. External agent connections keep their own data boundaries, and actions such as sending, buying, publishing, or deleting remain separate decisions.

## Compact by design. Local by default.

- **169 MB at the edge** — weights, tokenizer, processor, config, one package on Apple Silicon.
- **77.36% two-pass** — inside the published ScreenSpot-v2 top-20 range, fully on-device.
- **Zero exfiltration** — screenshots and instructions are grounded locally; nothing leaves the Mac.

## FAQ

**What does Atom do?** Atom maps a screenshot plus an instruction to a pixel-exact control target. The Barestate app sequences steps, performs actions, and re-observes the screen.

**How fast is grounding?** Under 50ms per target on Apple Silicon — Metal-accelerated inference returning OS accessibility bounding boxes.

**How accurate is it?** 75.94% one-shot and 77.36% with a second ReGround pass on ScreenSpot-v2 (1,272 targets, frozen baseline reproduced 25 September 2026) — inside the published top-20 range.

**What leaves the device?** Nothing, for grounding. Screenshots and instructions stay on the Mac and temporary captures are deleted after the step. External agent connections keep their own data boundary.
